# Reserved field-capture connection

Status: proposed connection only. The teacher's separate iPad app is still under development. No new field app or production connector is created here.

## One rubric definition, several uses

The approved task rubric has a stable ID, version, criteria and outcome links. GitHub/workbook publishing, Google evidence mappings and the Netlify catalogue reference that same released definition. The field app eventually downloads a snapshot. A future edit creates a new version and preserves older captures against the rubric used at that time.

The download should contain schema version; rubric ID/version/release status; course/project/assessment identifiers; criteria/descriptors/scale; outcome links; O/C look-fors and conversation prompts where teacher-only access permits; source/version provenance. A readable/printable view and structured JSON export come from the same definition. Student roster records are separate.

The reserved return interface carries event identity, the existing learner/course/enrolment, assignment/project, rubric version and criterion IDs, observation/conversation method(s), occurrence time, note/artifact and separate support context. Teacher attribution is established through authenticated access. A criterion-level observation is evidence; an outcome judgment is an explicit separate teacher decision. Future offline retry must deduplicate without losing the original occurrence time or rubric version.

## What the existing systems can prepare now

- Keep a Field capture / iPad connection area labelled planned until a real export is implemented.
- Add rubric download readiness to the catalogue; unresolved/draft rubrics stay visibly unresolved/draft.
- Extend the shared interface contract rather than inventing a second roster or rubric ID scheme.
- Preserve the actual scale: local technology bands, local IB formative criteria and official IB markschemes are not interchangeable.

The companion implementation prompt is 06_FUTURE_IPAD_CONNECTION_PROMPT.md in the implementation prompt pack. It is an addendum for the existing Netlify/Google integration maintainer, not a request to build the iPad app now.
