Photoshop pilot and moderation

Teacher technical rehearsal and classroom check, 14 September 2026. No student records or ratings are supplied.

What was actually checked

The original A/B production-file script ran in Photoshop 27.10.0. Both documents used a 1200 × 1500 RGB canvas, five layers and three editable type layers. The script created a layer mask, introduced and repaired a mask fault, saved v1/fault/v2 PSDs and PNGs, and reopened both v2 PSDs.

Known defect: the first rehearsal rendered the accented character in “Café” and separator dots incorrectly. The script now uses explicit Unicode escapes, but the corrected script has not been rerun: Photoshop computer control stopped responding. The linked files below are technical rehearsal samples, not moderated scoring exemplars. Correct the type layers or rerun the supplied script before classroom distribution.

The complete source release includes tools/rehearse_photoshop.jsx. Run it from Photoshop’s File → Scripts → Browse in the unpacked release. It writes only the named diagnostic outputs and closes only its own open PS-A/PS-B teacher v2 documents. Save any manual edits to those samples first.

Complete the technical check

  1. Open the current A brief and assets. Record the installed Photoshop version, platform and any asset or permission issue.
  2. Run the exact student steps manually. Verify named layers, editable type, masks, source preservation, requested exports and the changed brief. Record real action time; script execution time is not student task time.
  3. Correct the known typography problem. Reopen the saved PSD and inspect it at normal viewing size and at the mask boundary. Capture the Layers panel, selected mask and finished export.
  4. Repeat for B. Confirm comparable technique demands without simply repeating the same solution. A and B are proposed equivalents until classroom evidence supports that claim.
  5. Check access supports, reading load, visual contrast and an alternative way to explain thinking. Supports alone do not lower the level.

Run a small learner pilot

After common prerequisite instruction, try both versions with a small range of learners. Record minutes actually used, instructional hints and access supports separately. Ask which instruction caused uncertainty. Revise the task before using the band routinely. The planned 60-minute core and 75-minute option remain estimates.

Use a synthetic or locally assigned sample ID when moderating. Keep any identifying records in your school-approved private system.

Moderate criterion judgments

Two teachers independently inspect the same product, observed action and explanation using the four criteria in the diagnostic. Record ratings before discussing them. Compare the evidence behind disagreements, revise ambiguous descriptors, then re-score another sample. Keep original ratings. Agreement does not validate a Kagan test; these are local task judgments.
